Timothy Jackson Medical Practice

Website design for a Consultant Ophthalmic and Retinal Surgeon based in London.

Project Description

Professor Timothy Jackson is a Consultant Ophthalmic and Retinal Surgeon. He delivers private consultations and surgery at a number of medical practices and clinics in London.

He also works as an NHS Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at King’s College Hospital and undertakes cataract surgery. He has a sub-specialty interest in macular and retinal disease and vitreoretinal surgery.

We were approached by the Practice Manager who was keen to update the website which was looking very outdated and not presenting the right image to patients. Furthermore, the site was difficult to navigate on mobile devices, some web pages were broken and had very slow page speed load times.

Our Approach

Website Planning

We first set about defining the target audience for the website so we could learn more about the distinct groups of individuals that the practice would need to communicate with (made up of both patients and referrers, i.e. GPs and opticians etc) . We then mapped out what information they’d typically be looking for when visiting the website and what their online goals would be. This enabled us to create a suitable navigation structure for the website and to decide what would would be the best approach to presenting content to those key groups.

Website Design & Development

Before moving onto the design stage we presented a suitable colour palette and font styling for the site as the practice had no defined brand or logo guidelines.

Working in a fluid manner we set about designing the home and internal pages and provided the client with access to the ‘dev site’ during all stages of development. This gave the client the ability to see each page evolve as development progressed and provide feedback along the way on the site’s design and layout of content.

To ensure the site complies with the latest GDPR regulations we also implemented the correct cookie consent notification functionality. Google analytics tracking code was installed and monthly website visitor activity reports were set-up to be delivered each month.

Once the design and development process had completed we fully tested the website across both mobile and desktop web browsers (i.e. PCs, tablets, smartphones).  We also implemented key optimisation features to help improve page speed and search engine indexability, this also included setting up the appropriate re-directs so that any other web addresses in-use would re-point to the new website.

Once the site was launched we delivered a training session (via video) on how to use the WordPress content management system and web page creation and editing tool.

Damon and Gareth have been brilliant from start to finish – they were highly approachable and personable, great communicators and very professional. They very quickly understood our brief and everything was completed promptly and painlessly.
