Web design & multi-lingual website development for a children’s medicines specialist

Project Description

Proveca is a pharmaceutical company that specialises in the development and licensing of off-patent medicines to address unmet medical needs for children.

Their old sites were no longer presenting the right image and were difficult to update and maintain. Furthermore, the organisation had no clear domain name strategy which had led to a number of micro-sites (some of which were not compliant) being set-up which made it difficult for end-users to find information quickly and easily.

Key Objectives

  • To develop a compliant WordPress website for the countries in which Proveca operates in (Germany, Ireland, UK, Italy, Netherlands and the Nordic countries.
  • To consolidate sites and develop a domain name strategy that allowed for international expansion.
  • To provide educational information on children’s medicines in regard to excipients and administration.
  • To develop a website with a user-friendly content management system and to allow for translated content to be easily added.
  • Develop a platform that would allow Proveca to quickly launch new country specific websites.

After developing a successful CE Marked mobile app for Proveca, Genetic Digital was selected to work on the re-design of their existing website.

The new website needed to:

  • Show Proveca’s breadth of services and capabilities in the market
  • Be easy to navigate
  • Have a contemporary, clean design
  • Include information for both patients and healthcare professionals
  • Be search engine optimised
  • Be easy to update and maintain
  • Be mobile friendly (using responsive design)
  • Have multi-lingual functionality and the ability to add new country sections to the site
  • Integrate with other third-party software systems
  • Adhere to UK and European regulations for promoting prescription only medicines (POMs)

Our Approach

Genetic Digital started by working alongside the client to define a suitable structure and development strategy for the site. It was vital that the design of the site made it easy for healthcare professionals (HCPs), patients and carers to gain access to the right content. Content needed to be organised in such a way so that it could be presented in a compliant manner. The content was split into two areas: a) content that would be available for all audiences to see and b) content that was restricted to HCPs only.

The site included dedicated sections for the Irish, UK and German markets and standalone pages for Proveca’s partners located in Italy, the Netherlands and the Nordic countries. We built multi-lingual functionality into the site and put in place the correct safe-guards to make sure that restricted content could only be accessed by a healthcare professional. This included integrating the site with the German medical compliance system “DocCheck”.

The site was built on the WordPress platform and optimised for search engines and mobile devices. We also improved the speed of the site so that it loaded quickly both on desktop and mobile devices and set up customised reporting dashboards within Google Analytics so that the client could easily distribute monthly website activity reports to key personnel.

Genetic Digital have provided outstanding service and advice throughout our relationship. Due to many unfortunate circumstances re: COVID-19 we had to delay some digital projects but Damon and Gareth have always been very flexible and accommodating. The senior management team are all delighted with the performance of our new website and I look forward to working with them on our other digital marketing campaigns and projects, especially our SEO and LinkedIn marketing campaigns.
