Designing and developing the mobile app SaaS product for an ambitious healthcare start-up looking to sell into the NHS.
The Objective
Quick & easy guide to wound care treatment & easy access to a healthcare organisation’s wound care formulary in digital format.
The Wound Care Buddy app is a cloud-based service that enables healthcare professionals to quickly and easily access their organisation’s wound management guidelines and wound formulary product listing on mobile devices at the point of care. It is currently being trialled in a number of NHS Trusts. It is available on iOS and Android tablets and smartphones.
Strategy
Producing the app development plan and writing the technical & functional specification.
UI Design
Creating the UI designs aimed at busy doctors and nurses within the NHS.
Development
iOS and Android app development and building the cloud-based backend.
App Store
Creating the app store assets and publishing the app onto the Google Play and Apple App stores.

The solution involved the design and development of the following:
App Based Formulary
We developed a mobile app that enables healthcare professionals (HCPs) involved in managing patients with wounds to have immediate and easy access to the organisation’s wound care formulary (WCF), as on-the-go digital data on their mobile devices.
Key Functionality
- Guidance on appropriate wound dressing use by wound type
- Approved list of dressings on formulary
- Price list/prescribing information
- Wound assessment protocols
- Specific practice/education information – for example infected wounds/negative pressure
- Therapy/compression therapy protocol
- Ability to alert/prompt/communicate on wound care practice operational matters
